What kind of talk are you spewing forth?
Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:29-30 New King James Version
THOUGHTS ABOUT TODAY’S VERSE…
Are you spewing forth polluting, corrupt, worthless weed talk? Don’t speak corrupt or unwholesome talk (the amplified bible says it this way: “foul, polluting language or worthless talk”) to those around you. Do not gossip as it is polluting talk. But, rather speak words that will be a blessing, that will be beneficial to the building of a strong spiritual faith and are fitting for the occasion. Words that are founded on the “Rock”, God’s Holy Word. Because Verse 30 starts with “And” I believe it is a condition tied to verse 29 to remind us that to speak evil or corrupt speech does grieve the Holy Spirit. Certainly we do not want to grieve the Holy Spirit, we want Him at work in our lives at all times.
Heavenly Father, I give You all praise and glory forever. Father, help me to have in me a pure heart, a kind heart, and a heart that is full of Your love, joy, and peace in the Holy Spirit. That way I can speak pure words, kind words, and words of encouragement and love. Father, bring those people across my path today that need encouragement, that I may be a blessing to them and glorify You also. In Jesus name I pray.
